Blog #3

I believe that we as people can define a place, but a place can also define us. It depends on how the person looks at it. We make our opinions of places depending how we see them, but the place is what makes us have opinions. Many of the artists in the Art: 21 series relate certain places into their artwork. They are usually places they have lived at or have had an important meaning to them. The Artist that I thought represented this well was Pepon Osorio. He contributed a barbershop scene and house into his work that represented his life growing up. It was interesting because a lot of family pictures were shown. There were many different places that had an affect on me when I was younger. Some of those places were my room, my grandparents house, closets, basements, and my grandparents barn. My room: Comfort, Grandparents house: Fun, Closets: Exploring, Basements: Playing, Grandparents barn: scared. One of those places I could describe is Closets. My grandparents upstairs closet was a pretty big room that had many random objects. Besides years of old clothes that had been passed from kid to kid, there was a countless amount of board games and stuffed animals. I remember feeling like i could get lost if I went back in too far because of all the covering clothes and stuff.
I think stories that are passed down from family are important because it actually affects you as a person. It gives you guidance on how to live life. I would make it an important story that people in my family could learn from and would give the idea of respect to value.
Some stories are told because they are something positive and reassuring to some. Stories that are passed down from generation to generation usually have some sort of morals that someone is trying to get across. If the story lacks meaning it will not be passed on or shared because it will hold no interest.
I believe that sketchbooks aren't really a work of art, but insteasd, they are used to form and build art. Journals and sketchbooks are used for brainstorming a final project. Journals are used to put thoughts into a final writing. Sketchbooks are used to visually put an idea on paper that could be used for a final project.
When I was 5 I didn't have a care in the world. My life was all about imagination and playing with the neighborhood kids. I remember the daily outside time was a must and the cartoons were always on. I remember starting out drawing and realizing that I had more talent that what I had noticed. Now, I feel like I have lost the innocence of everything that a 5 year old has. You understand reality and accept it. You wish that you could still not have a care in the world, but know that it will never happen again until you retire.
